Infinix mobility, on the 30th of August, 2017, officially launched the Infinix HOT 5 and the infinix HOT 5 Lite.
The Infinix HOT 5 and the Infinix HOT 5 Lite are the successors to last year’s infinix HOT 4 and the HOT 4 lite. We hope to see a pro version of same device being compared against the HOT 4 in possibly a few months time.
The Infinix HOT 4 launched last year, was well received with warm hands. A video review of the device already has over 30,000+ views on YouTube.
A couple of times, I have recommended the HOT 4 as the best budget smartphone both online, and offline. The device even takes a spot in my 2017 best Infinix Android smartphone.
Fast forward to when I first got an insight of the infinix HOT 5 design render, I had high hopes in regards the phone specifications. Evidently, the design is gonna be a plastic affair, that I know. I expected to see an improvement in the specs sheet.
A couple of days before the official launch, the Infinix HOT 5 and the Infinix HOT 5 Lite specifications became officially available.

Having cleared the key specifications out of the way, how about a bit more in depth compared to last year’s HOT 4?
Design
The Infinix HOT 4 launched last year 2016 featured a plastic design with a feel infinix described as ‘3D Texture’. The design felt pretty good in the hands, however, it was prone to easy scratch.
If you care to, check out my full review of the infinix HOT 4 Here.
In the case of the infinix HOT 5, the infinix HOT 5 design is kinda similar to the HOT 4.
You still get the plastic design with a bit more rougher feel which is aimed at bringing about a better grip.
Display
On the display side, the infinix HOT 5 features a 5.5inch IPS display with 720p (HD) resolution. The infinix HOT 4 released last year, featured same 5.5inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 (720p, HD) resolution. Hence, when it comes to display, the screen size and resolution are pretty much the same.
The only difference between both devices however, is the navigation buttons. While the HOT 4 featured touch screen navigation buttons, the HOT 5 features onscreen navigation buttons.
Camera
This is something you are pretty much interested in, yeah? Well, although the infinix HOT 4 featured an 8 megapixels back camera accompanied by a 5 megapixels front facing camera, I was impressed with the picture quality of the device.
For the price and the megapixels count, the device delivered pretty well in the camera department. In the case of the Infinix HOT 5, nothing seem to have changed. The HOT 5 still features same 8 megapixels back camera accompanied by a 5 megapixels front facing shooter.
Owing to the fact that when it comes to picture quality, it isn’t all about the megapixels but the sensor being used, I am not 100% sure whether or not, same sensor used on the HOT 4, is incorporated on the HOT 5. It’d be nice to try that out for clarification sake though.
Processor
Although the Infinix HOT 4 packed a MediaTek Quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 2GB RAM, it delivered well as it ought to. Multitasking between games worked well as disclosed in the full review video.
Infinix this time, incorporated same processor on the HOT 5. The infinix HOT 5 is powered by same MediaTek Quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 2GB RAM. The HOT 5 lite on the other hand, is powered by same 1.3GHz Quad-core MediaTek processor except with 1GB of RAM. Hello, infinix Smart!
So technically, nothing new in the processor department as well.
Battery
On the battery side, the infinix HOT 4 packed a 4000mAh Power Battery. Under lite usage, the battery could last as much as 48 hours. That may not have changed in the case of the HOT 5 as the device packs same 4000mAh battery.
Depending on usage, this should conveniently last between 24 to 48 hours. As of now, I cannot ascertain whether or not, fast charging is on board.
What’s New Between The Infinix HOT 4 and The Infinix HOT 5?
I guess you have looked through the specs-sheet and you are wondering, exactly what’s new after 1 year, right?
Well, when infinix launched the infinix smart, the main selling point of the device was/is the dual stereo speakers with dirac 3D surround feature. I tested that in the infinix smart full review here. This same feature is now present on the HOT 5.
So technically, what’s new would be:
1. An upgraded Android OS out of the box: The infinix HOT 4 runs Android marshmallow customized with XOS out of the box. This however, can be upgraded to Android nougat. The HOT 5 on the other hand, ships with Android Nougat. Whether or not, the device will be getting Android Oreo on the long run, cannot be ascertained at this point.
2. Change In Navigation buttons: The HOT 4 features physical navigation buttons while the HOT 5 features onscreen notification buttons.
3. Dual Stereo speakers with 3D Stereo Surround: This is basically the major addition in regards what’s new on the HOT series after 1 year.
Infinix HOT 5 and Infinix HOT 5 Lite Price In Nigeria
The infinix HOT 5 retails at NGN37,500 while the infinix HOT 5 price is at NGN32,000. The prices however, are subject to change depending on the store you are buying from.
It’d be nice to comprehensively test out the devices to find out if it matches up to pal with the HOT 4, performs better or performs less.
What’s also worth mentioning is, both the infinix HOT 5 and the HOT 5 lite DO NOT support 4G LTE. Hence, we should expect seeing an Infinix HOT 5 Pro with 4G LTE being the deal breaker.
So, what do you think? Is the infinix HOT 5 and the infinix HOT 5 Lite worth buying in 2017 based on these assessments?
great post but I still think infinix needs to work a lot more if they are to take on the big boys in the mobile phone business.
Nice Post but I still think infinix need a lot of work if they are to challenge global brands
They are both very ok , but the Hot5 designs is superb
Thanks for this complete review. Infinix is my best brand and that’s what am using now.
